Serial Numbers

Serial numbering, and dating a Teye-guitar

In the beginning, there was only the A-series, which was in those days not even called the A-series, just the Teye-guitar… The first few A-guitars got a kind of serial number engraved on the front plate (just a number xxx), or perhaps on the tailpiece cover. The very first Electric Gypsy received the engraving “Electric Gypsy One” on the tailpiece). After about 15 guitars, and on the advice of a good friend and customer, Teye started to also stamp the serial number into the wood, and selected a special location for it: the only place where it wasn’t ‘in the way’…

As soon as the S-series came into play, the A-series officially started to be called A-series and received an A-xxx serial number (some received A-xxxx), starting at A-017.

Introduction of a second series

Then Teye started work on the S-series, so that now a separate numbering was needed for that. The one-plus-six prototypes were numbered S-PT-xx (01 thru 07), and after that, S-guitars received an S-xxxx number, starting at S-0001

The ‘Outside the Series’-series

Then Teye started work on his first ‘La Perla’ guitar. This instrument needed a special serial number. In Spanish, ‘Fuera de serie’ means outside of the series, or simply ‘outstanding’, so that was how the Fuera de Serie series came about. They are A-series guitars, but simply put, the extraordinary designs. They carry an FS-xx or FS-xxx number (depending on my mood), starting at FS-01.

T-series follows the rules

Then, in 2009, the T-series came about, and got T-xxxx, starting at T-0001

Confusion, and Solution

In October 2011, Teye built his first R-series guitars, and introduced the E-series. The F-series is up next. Can you imagine the confusion of having so many guitars with same numbers? There would be an S-0102, a T-0102, an R-0102 etc. and all different guitars.

So Teye has started to use a uniform serial numbering system whereas all guitars and basses of all series (except the A- and FS- series) will receive consecutive serial numbers. Starting with number 00115

Prototypes and Basses:

Prototypes: not much of a system, really. S-protos received S-PT-xx (01 thru 07). T-protos just have T-xxxx serial numbers (the T-protos are T-0001 thru 0011). The R’s receive R-PT-xx (01 thru 12).

The basses will receive the new consecutive numbers, just like the guitars. There will be no separate bass numbering. A-series basses have also received their consecutive A-series numbers: A-024 and 033.

Maybe dinner first, then a movie, and we’ll see where it all leads?
