GypsyFest back in business!
When ‘The Oaks’, monthly haunt of the GypsyFest shameless promotion jam, closed its doors it was also the premature end of the Fest. I’ve been looking for a new venue to host this very popular jam in, and yesterday stumbled upon it: the ideal place, just outside of Austin, doors open and we could play nice and loud, the clientele super-receptive and the management cooler-than-cool. Also, the consumptions are a fraction of what they’d be in Downtown Austin, and parking is plentiful and free. It is called ‘The Waterhole’, located on Hwy 71 East, about 3 miles East of the Austin Airport, and the landmark to easily find it is, as Borat would call it, a sexy store with bright red neon exclaiming ‘adult video’ (and by ‘adult’, they do not refer to complex psychological drama movies). But thanks to the neon sign, you can’t miss the club.
1st GypsyFest is announced and booked for the first Saturday of February.
What to expect? A complete band is there, as well as a complete backline, plus guitars (Electric Gypsies), a bass, and a kit. So whether you are a guitar player, bassist, drummer or singer, you can just show up and play. The hosting band (us) will tie it all together. When you want to play keyboards, horns, or harp, you must bring your own instrument, but we’ll amplify it for you.
The concept has so far worked magically well. So, if you want to jam, or want to listen to some great music being born on the spot, you MUST come and have a listen.
So mark this on your calendar! And …see you there!
