Ode to the bridge of civilizations: Teye’s Konstantinopolis

Konstantinopolis, or “City of Konstantin”, the Roman emperor who moved the capital of the Roman empire there, is nowadays Istanbul, thriving city straddling the continents of Europe and Asia. The city literally sits on the fault line between East and West, and it is noticeable both in mentality and tolerance.

Teye performed in Istanbul on several occasions and was immediately hooked on the multi-faceted culture.

Now combine this straddling of East and West with the traditional American-Indian jewelry made of silver and turquoise (the term turquoise of course referring to the Turks) that can be found on the La India guitar and symbolizes the roots of Teye’s chosen home country. Then surround pieces of turquoise with a ring of silver-colored aluminum and you have the Turkish symbol to ward off evil.

The engraving on the rear is of the Castle of Seven Towers, which used to be the treasury of the Ottoman empire. Across the Bosporus you can see the mountains of Asia.

The engraved slogan in Turkish was the idea of Teye’s niece Hanneke who lives in Istanbul. The meaning is beautiful and profound for any musician: “In the end, the only thing that turned out to be eternal, was a beautiful melody”

Also, TKL has granted my wish of a stronger force in holding the butt of the case together: not only have they moved the one latch: they’ve added a 5th one for unsurpassed closing grip (the 5th latch is not in the photo of the prototype)

The people at TKL have been more than helpful in putting this case together and we are very proud to be working with them. And – get this – all cases are Made in Virginia, not China. While we wish the people of China the very best, we still believe in keeping jobs for our friends and neighbors, too many of whom can’t find a decent job because it was moved elsewhere.

Beginning in late April of this year, guitars will be shipped with the new and stylish Teye-designed volume and tone knobs, and an A-series switch tip. There will be a price increase.

For a limited time, guitars can still be ordered with the old generic plastic knobs and switch tip. Also, for a limited time, Teye-guitar owners who want to upgrade to the new controls will have a chance to do this at an introductory price.

Of course I stand behind my guitars, and I will of course service any Teye-guitar. But it will not be under warranty, warranty only applies when you are the original customer. Am I the only one that does it like this?

My warranty has always been listed on eBay without anyone ever asking me first. This is why I have several disclaimers on my web site that clearly state that any ‘warranty’ promised on eBay will not come from me.

I will from now on immediately report any listing that promises my warranty. It is simply unfair to offer my services for free without me knowing about it.
